The city of LaFayette rejected a proposal from the county during its monthly meeting Monday, June 10, to take out a loan to cover the cost of the remainder of the LaFayette library renovation project.
According to interim city manager Max Morrison, Walker County is $300,000 short on funds it promised to the library project, and therefore suggested that the city allow the library building and property, together worth about $4.5 million, to be put up for collateral against a loan for the amount of the shortfall, which the county promised to pay back at a later date.
