Freshman Sierra Smith would lead the way with 14 points, including four three-pointers. Fellow rookie Odessa Person scored only eight points, but pulled down 17 rebounds.
Southern Crescent sharpshooter LaKaisha Anderson led all Lady Tiger scorers with 22 points in the loss.
Alyssa Nichelson and Kiarra Parks dropped in 13 and 12 points, respectively, for GNTC. The home team jumped out to the early lead in the first half with 83-percent shooting from the charity stripe and connected from three-point land at a 44-percent clip.
The Lady Cats (7-7, 1-0) will play a non-region game at Cleveland State on Tuesday night.
Southern Crescent men 76, GNTC 64
In a game which saw 14 lead changes in the first twenty minutes, it would be the final one with 12 minutes to play that would give Southern Crescent Tech a tough road win over Georgia Northwestern on Saturday in Rome.
Up just a single point at the intermission, the Bobcats (5-9, 0-1) could not find their rhythm against the Tigers in the second stanza. Southern Crescent guard Demarrius Tyler would pick up 22 points and rack up five steals in the win.
The first game of region play in the 2012-13 season would see the long-awaited return of freshman guard Fernando Lemus, Jr. After a year-long rehab to treat torn ligaments in both knees, the Model High product would play lights out to start the game going 3-for-3 from long range, dropping 11 points in just 12 minutes of first-half action.
However, the tell-tale sign for GNTC head coach David Stephenson was on the glass where the Tigers won the battle of the boards, 50-32. The Bobcats also hurt themselves at the charity stripe, connecting on just 13-of-31 attempts.
The Bobcats will play a non-region game against visiting NCAA Division II newcomer Lee University on Tuesday at the Rossville Athletic Complex.
NJCAA Region XVII play will continue on Saturday night as the Bobcats and Lady Bobcats head to Warner Robins to face Middle Georgia Tech.
