Two Catoosa County men were arrested in Fort Oglethorpe early Wednesday morning, Dec. 19, after they allegedly led police on a short chase following a dispute in the Wal-Mart parking lot on Battlefield Parkway.

According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:

Michael Robert Burrows, 22, of South Center Street in Rossville was arrested on Dec. 19, along with 18-year-old Jeremy Neal Stoker of Whittemore Hollow Road in Ringgold.

Burrows was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, failure to maintain lane, failure to signal when turning, tire requirements, no brakes, no proof of insurance, operating an unsafe vehicle, safety belt violation, driving without a license, and a headlight violation. Stoker was charged with disorderly conduct and a safety belt violation.

Both men were released from jail on bond.

The incident occurred at the Wal-Mart at 3040 Ga. 2 (Battlefield Parkway) about 1:40 a.m. Wednesday when store management called police regarding a dispute that had erupted in the parking lot, reports show.

"As I pulled into the Wal-Mart parking lot, I immediately located management standing in front of the store," officer William Palmer said. "The manager pointed at a vehicle leaving the parking lot at a high rate of speed, and I observed the vehicle make a turn eastbound onto Battlefield Parkway."

A brief chase ensued along Battlefield Parkway, reports show.

"I lost contact with the vehicle briefly, but was then able to relocate it with the headlights and tail lights turned off driving into a dirt field west of North Georgia E.M.C.," Palmer said. "A deputy with the Catoosa County Sheriff's Office arrived and was able to assist in stopping the vehicle in the field."

Both men were removed from the vehicle, placed into custody, and transported to Catoosa County jail without further incident.
