In a rematch of a 2011 road loss to Auburn University feeder school, Southern Union, the new look Georgia Northwestern Lady Bobcats launched an attack from long-range Friday afternoon to find redemption against the Lady Bison, 71-70.

Freshman sharpshooter Sierra Smith found her rhythm from beyond the arc once again. Going 6-of-13 from three-point range, Smith's biggest two shots found their mark in the final 10 seconds of the game.

Her second-to-last trey resulted in an opportunity for a four-point play. The free throw was missed, but GNTC got the offensive rebound and looked for Smith once more.

A big-time screen from Mariah Price helped open room for Smith, who drained the game-winner from the right wing.

Smith was 3-of-5 from outside in the first half to keep GNTC within striking distance, 35-31, at intermission. She finished the first half with 11 points.

"If we get it to you, you have to put up the shot," head coach Jim Williams told Smith and sophomore Emily Cole during the break.

It turns out they listened.

Georgia Northwestern's win over the Lady Bison is the college's first-ever win over an NJCAA Division I program.

The Lady Cats (6-5) will close things out before the Christmas break with a charity match against Mid-South College at the Rossville Athletic Complex on Dec. 11.

Both GNTC teams will be in action against Mid-South that night for the college's Toy Drive games. Fans will get a free admission with every new toy donated to the drive at the gate. All donations will go to North Georgia's Stocking Full of Love Toy Drive.

Georgia Northwestern is a member of NJCAA's Region XVII and a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia. The Lady Cats are the NJCAA's Region XVII defending champions.
