Students at LaFayette High School were evacuated shortly after 11 a.m. today after a gas leak was reported.

According to Walker County 911, a school resource officer evacuated the students within minutes of a reported gas leak.

LaFayette Fire Department was soon on the scene, with everything under control by 11:45 a.m.

There is no word yet of the cause or nature of the leak, but a school official outside of the school managing traffic said it is common procedure to evacuate students for safety reasons.
