The annual “Patriotism at The Post” celebration will take place on Saturday, July 3, at the polo field on Barnhardt Circle in Fort Oglethorpe.
The event offers a spectacular night of patriotic family fun with decorations, music and fireworks beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The Patriotic Kid’s Contest starts things off, with all boys and girls age 10 and younger invited to show their patriotism by dressing with the most red, white and blue. One boy and one girl will be recognized as winners and receive a $50 gift card.
The evening continues with a patriotic concert by L’Abri Symphony Orchestra at 8 p.m.
The symphony’s conductor Tracy Coats expressed the group’s excitement at performing for a fifth year at the event.
“We love our country, we love patriotic music, and to be able to perform on this historic field in honor of Independence Day is just a thrill for all of us,” she said.
L’Abri Symphony Orchestra expects 45 members to perform.
The fireworks celebration will begin at dark. Modern Woodmen of America is the fireworks co-sponsor, with support from the city of Fort Oglethorpe and the Georgia Grassroots Arts Program.
Dave Patel, Fort Oglethorpe tourism committee president, invites the community to bring lawn chairs, blankets and a flashlight for after dark.
“Now you can stay right here in Fort Oglethorpe, see great fireworks and celebrate the holiday with your family and neighbors and not have to fight the traffic into Chattanooga,” he said.
The event is free to the public, with priority parking on the polo field charged at $5 per car. All proceeds from parking will go to defray the cost of the event.
VFW Chickamauga Post 3679 will sell BBQ, hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks. Old Mill Kettle Corn and Repici Ice will also be available. Apex Inflatables will again provide an inflatable for the kids to enjoy with adult supervision required.
