Chickamauga couple’s house burglarized while away in Texas

A Chickamauga man said that he and his wife had left the area around Thanksgiving, to return recently to discover their residence was broken into and several items stolen.

According to Walker County Sheriff’s Department reports:

Sometime between Nov. 24, 2009, and Jan. 19, 2010, someone broke into the residence located on Brock Road and stole a copper wire, 28-foot aluminum ladder, Pioneer home stereo, and Compaq computer tower, and caused thousands of dollars in damages to the property.

The man said that as he and his wife returned home from working several months in Texas since Thanksgiving, they noticed they had been burglarized.

The estimated total in the items stolen and damages to the property equal $10,150.

$20,000 in pre-1964 silver coins stolen from Rock Spring residence

A Rock Spring woman said someone burglarized her residence on East Turnipseed Road and stole $20,000 in silver coins that pre-date 1964.

According to Walker County Sheriff’s Department reports:

Sometime between Jan. 12 and Jan. 19, someone broke into the residence and stole the silver coins from a standing locker cabinet, where the coins were in a burlap bag that was sewn shut.

The woman said her father had bought the coins for $20,000 years ago.

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office can offer a reward for information if it leads to an arrest. The reward amount is based on the nature of the crime(s) involved.
