The Catoosa Citizens And Veterans Memorial Foundation board will host its sixth annual Tribute to America on Nov. 11 at 5 p.m. on the Benton Place campus in Ringgold.

The event will honor a veteran, a patriotic citizen of the year and a volunteer community service person or organization from Catoosa and Walker counties.

An American flag retirement ceremony will be presented by area Boy Scouts and the American Flag Company. Afterwards, there will be a candlelight prayer service for those currently in the military.

Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School will provide patriotic music during the event.

Yvonne Morgan of the Foundation board said the annual event came to light because the board could not find any surrounding communities that honored a veteran of the year.

A citizens and veterans memorial sponsored by the board is currently under constant construction at the Benton Place campus. As a fundraiser, bricks in honor of a veteran or citizen can be purchased for $40.

Morgan said the event is very formal, with no speaking during the flag retirement ceremony.

“When you leave, you’re going to be a different person,” Morgan said.
