Fort Oglethorpe police chief says the city has escaped so far without any fatalities or se-rious injuries, and no one has been reported missing.

He said the patrol units are stretched throughout the city, manning road barricades and diverting traffic.

“People just don’t understand how little water it takes to damage a vehicle,” said chief David Eubanks on Tuesday.

The rest of the department is answering the routine day-to-day calls.

The station has been inundated with calls from residents asking when the roads will be reopened, but the chief said there’s no way to know for sure.

While no one has been injured, some residents should consider themselves lucky, Eubanks said.

On Sunday, two people rode on an inner tube in the overflowing creek. The current liter-ally undressed one person.

It was a “case of poor judgment,” Eubanks said.
