Tommy Freeman, LaFayette public safety director and police chief, said on Tuesday that the flooding in LaFayette has not lead to an increase of traffic accidents in the city.

Freeman said that thankfully there have been no serious injuries, nor fatalities reported for the city of LaFayette.

According to Freeman, a residence on Pledger Parkway, with five family members, was evacuated due to severe flooding in the residence and the city police helped evacuate the residence.

Freeman said that he had called in all of the off-duty police officers to assist in the recent flooding and that the majority of water rescues have been vehicle and residential in nature.

“We are on top of things,” Freeman said.

Freeman said the people who have been rescued the most were installed vehicles, where individuals tried to cross-flooded streets, where the vehicles became stalled.

Freeman said that the fire department’s rescue boat was on hand and ready to be util-ized, but the situation has yet to call for it.

Freeman said that officers were very busy Sunday night and into Monday morning, but during Monday, the situation began to normalize, due to the lack of severe weather Monday in LaFayette.

Freeman stressed that if anyone sees heavy water flooding across roadways, to not try to cross it, because the road could collapse.
