A pitcher known for his location has made a decision on his location for next year.

Gordon Lee senior Dane Anderson signed last week with Chattanooga State. The Tigers, under head coach Greg Dennis, are currently ranked second in the junior college nation rankings and have spent time at No. 1 earlier this season.

Chattanooga State pitching coach and former Major Leaguer Robert Long, said he liked Anderson’s attitude on the mound.

Dane is a control pitcher,” Long said. “He can throw three different pitches for strikes at any time. He’s hard-nosed and a battler and those are the kind of guys we want in our program. We want to get the local guys that know how to pitch and hopefully help them along the way.”

Anderson was 3-0 with one save in nine appearances for the Trojans this spring prior to Monday's game. He has a 1.86 ERA with 27 strikeouts against just four walks in 26 innings. Opponents are hitting just .208 against the crafty right-hander.

Although primarily a pitcher, Anderson has a pair of doubles in five at-bats this year with one RBI.

“This means everything in the world,” Anderson said. “I’ve been blessed with opportunity to play at the next level going to do best I can. God has given me a talent and I plan on taking that talent far as I can.”

Anderson selected the Tigers over Lee University and Young Harris College.

“I think I made the right decision about going to Chattanooga State,” he explained. “I can always get to a big university by going there, getting stronger and learning more about the game. I’m really excited to start up there this fall and I’m going to try and help as much as I can and learn more from the players that are up there now.”

Several of Anderson’s friends and former summer league teammates, such as Ringgold’s Thomas Gray and Baylor’s Coty Green, are freshmen on the Tigers’ roster this year.

“He’s a frustrating pitcher to hit,” Gordon Lee head coach Greg Payne said of Anderson. “You see him throw and think, ‘I can hit this guy’. Next thing you know, your team’s getting beat, they’ve only got there hits and you’re 0-for-3.”

Anderson will be follow-ing in the footsteps of his cousin Adam Cross, who starred at Gordon Lee and Chattanooga State before signing with Kennesaw State University.

Cross is currently hitting .280 for the Division I Owls with a team-high three home runs and 11 RBIs.

“Dane’s stuff isn’t electric,” Payne added. “But he’s a precision guy that keeps the ball low, works his counts and stays ahead of the batter. We saw that a freshman and he’s just matured so much since then, kind of like Adam.

“I’m not surprised he’s getting to sign but I’m very proud that he is getting to sign. Hopefully he’ll have the same success Adam did.”

Anderson said he wants to major in education and one day works with children, perhaps as an elementary school physical education teacher
