DULUTH - Ridgeland wrestlers Ian Stephens and Brient Hobbs are through to the Class AAAA quarterfinals after the first day of the Georgia State Tournament at the Gwinnett Arena.

Stephens, runner-up last year at 145 pounds, opened Thursday with a 9-2 win over Caleb Butler of Alexander and followed up with an 8-4 win over Chad Smith of Loganville.

He will take on Matt Miller of North Forsyth in the quarterfinals Friday afternoon.

Also in the quarterfinals is 171-pounder Brient Hobbs.

Hobbs, a fourth seed, blanked North Forsyth's Matt Cameron 7-0 in the first round before beating Lakeside, Evans' Kyle Hill 8-4 in round two.

Hobbs will meet Alexander's Cody Blackstock in the quarters.

Henry County leads the team standings after the first day with 66.5 points. Woodland is second with 65 points. Ringgold is third with 64.5 points. Forsyth Central (54) and North Forsyth (49) round out the top five.

The rest of the top 10 include Woodward (48), Southwest DeKalb (44), Marist (42), Eastside (40.5) and Stockbridge (39.5).

Other area teams include Paulding County (29.5), East Paulding (26), Murray County (22), Hiram (19), LFO (16), Rome (15.5), Northwest Whitfield (13), Ridgeland (10.5), Southeast Whitfield (9) and Dalton (7).

Gordon Lee and LaFayette wrestlers will hit the mats for their first round Friday morning.

The semifinals in all five classifications will begin at approximately 7:30 Friday night
