Lanier County withstood a no-hitter and 14 strikeouts from Gordon Lee's Sam Floyd to claim a 1-0 win in the Class A state softball tournament Thursday in Columbus.

Lanier's Kendra West fired a no-hitter and struck out eight for the winners, who tallied the game's only run in the sixth inning on an illegal pitch. West and Floyd walked two hitters each.

Needing six straight wins over two days to capture the state title, the Lady Trojans will next meet Bowdon Friday at 9 a.m. Bowdon was a 2-1 loser to Brookstone Thursday in the double-elimination tournament.

Ridgeland, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe and Ringgold are all scheduled to play Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Class AAAA tournament, also in Columbus
