The Marsh House will present two special exhibitions during the summer months. These shows will initiate a series of rotating exhibits of historical interest to LaFayette and to the rest of the Walker County community. Different types of exhibits will be offered periodically to the public in order to expand the understanding of the historical periods represented by the Marsh House. The first exhibit will be a presentation of 1860’s clothing by Tina Rogers, a local expert in period clothing. The exhibit will be added to the regular tours during open hours which are from 1 to 3 p.m. on the last three Sundays of June. Docents who lead tours will guide visitors through the house with an interpretation of the permanent furnishings while Rogers will add an explanation of the types of clothing worn in the 1860’s. The tours will cost $5.

The second exhibit will occur in mid-July. It will feature artwork and stories about Lucy Street, the last occupant of the Street home which stood across the road from the Marsh House near where the Bi-Lo shopping center is now. Street was one of the more colorful citizens of LaFayette in the 20th century. Additional information will be released in early July.

For more information, interested persons may call Lin Oliver, administrator of the Marsh House at 706-638-5187. The Marsh House is operated as a partnership between the Walker County government and the Walker County Historical Society through the Marsh House Community Task Force. Regular open hours are Sundays and Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m
