I wasnt very good (at first), he said. But Drew said he continued to get on the dirt bike about three to four times a week, spending hours honing his skills.
Asked what is his favorite part about riding dirt bikes, Drew said, Jumping the hills.
Drew is fortunate to have a stepfather, Michael Loggins, who was already a motocross racer. Michael rides a Honda CRL 450R, but a knee injury has kept the award-winning racer out of action for a while.
He has amazed me on how fast he is on the track, Michael said. He gets bored riding around the field real fast, so he loves the tracks in Chattanooga and Tunnel Hill.
The familys love of motorcycles goes even further. Michaels wife, Stephanie Loggins, loves riding her Honda 150R. And she races as well as the two guys.
Stephanie said they enjoy spending time together at their racing events.
Every Saturday, the family loads up the truck and hits the races in either the Chattanooga MX (ride-cmx.com) or the Tunnel Hill Twin Peaks MX (twinpeaksmx.net).
Drews racing age group consists of 9-year-olds to 13-years-olds.
Drew has won three first-place awards, four second-place awards, three fourth-place awards and two fifth-place awards all in less than a year.
Drew hopes to be signed as a sponsor for Monster Energy Drink, his drink of choice.
Drew hopes to race in bigger events, travel to different places for racing and also take part in the Loretta Lynn Race.
It has surprised me on how fast he has progressed, Stephanie said about her son.
Michael wanted something for them to have to do together, so they go riding while I am at work, Stephanie said.
Drew wants to attend the University of Georgia or MIT to study video graphic design.
Michael and Drew plan to race again together as soon as Michaels knee heals.
I may not be as fast as I was, but Ill back there and ride around because I love it, Michael said.
Drew already has two sponsors, Decal Works and FCR Suspension. But the family has its own sponsor, MSD Racing.
