Truman Sherrill, 91, Knoxville, Tenn.

Truman Sherrill of Knoxville, Tenn., and formerly of Rossville, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009. He was 91.

The son of the late Frank Ray and Mattie Pearl DeFriese Sherrill, "Pop", as he was known by his grandchildren, came home from World War II after serving in the Army and opened a radio repair shop at the local Western Auto. This grew to include TV repair work and he eventually opened Sherrill's TV Repair in Chattanooga, Tenn. His hobbies included “rock hounding” with his wife of 65 years, Ellen (better known to us as "Granny"). They traveled west on several rock hound trips where they collected many rocks and numerous friends. He loved to work in his garden. Many times you could drive by his house and find him in the yard nurturing a plant or flower back to life. He also enjoyed fishing and sitting out on the back porch sharing a cup of coffee and a story along with a friend or one of his family members. As life sped up and TV repairs slowed, Granny persuaded him to get involved in her doll repairs. They opened Ellen's Doll Shop and brought many smiles to faces of those who had antique dolls in need of repair. The many happy memories will include the long talks on his back porch, words of wisdom from someone older, and the smile that lit up his face. He will be missed by all who loved him. But we know Granny is shouting in heaven now to see her sweetheart come home.
