Walker County voters will have a chance on Tuesday, Oct. 19, to see how local political candidates stack up against each other.

The Walker County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the political candidates forum at the Walker County Civic Center. Invitations to participate in the forum have been mailed to candidates running in the November general election.

Charles Lusk, chairman of the Chamber’s governmental affairs committee, will moderate the forum.

“Audience members can submit written questions that will be answered in a question-and-answer session following the presentations,” said Stacy Mauer, Chamber director of tourism and public relations.

Candidates in the following races have been invited to speak: U.S. Senate, U.S. 10th Congressional District, state Senate District 53, state House District 1, state House District 2, Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit district attorney, county probate judge, county chief magistrate, county Superior Court clerk, county sheriff, county tax commissioner, county surveyor, county coroner, county commissioner and county school board Posts 1, 3, 4 and 5.

“The time limit for each speaker will be determined by how many RSVPs we receive,” Chamber programs and events director Angie Meeks said. “The deadline for responses is Oct. 12 (for candidates to register to speak at the forum).”

About 100 people are expected to attend, she said.

Light refreshments will be served.
