A Rossville couple, charged with murder in the death of their 15-month-old son, was arrested last week in Kentucky on narcotics charges. Another suspect turned himself in to authorities early Tuesday, July 17.

Owensboro, Ky., Police Department on Wednesday, July 11, arrested 27-year-old Suzette Callaway and Christopher Hicks, 28. Both are listed as living at 153 Mason St. in Rossville, a portion of the city that is in Catoosa County.

Narcotics agents had the couple under surveillance when Callaway purchased chemicals used to make methamphetamine, also called crank, Catoosa County Sheriff Phil Summers said.

Shortly after midnight Monday, July 16, another suspect, Lance Rockholt, 32, also of 153 Mason St., turned himself in to Catoosa County authorities.

According to Summers:

As authorities booked Callaway and Hicks into Daviess County Detention Center, a criminal history check revealed the couple was wanted in Catoosa County on murder charges.

A hold has been placed on the pair for Catoosa County, where they will not have the option of bond. Kentucky authorities said Monday, July 16, a hearing on the narcotics charges has been set for next week.

The murder charges stem from the Feb. 17 explosion that severely burned 15-month-old Shelton Hicks.

Christopher Hicks and Lance Rockholt were operating an illegal methamphetamine lab in the house Lance and Connie Rockholt shared with the toddler’s family. The lab exploded, burning 30 percent of the toddler’s body.

Catoosa Sheriff’s Department arrested Callaway and Hicks, along with Connie Rockholt, on drug and child neglect charges. The parents were released on bond in February.

Shelton was treated at Shriner’s Burn Unit in Cincinnati and subsequently hospitalized in Rome. He went into cardiac arrest on June 14 and died two days later. His body was taken to a Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for an autopsy.

Upon the boy’s death, charges against the four suspects were upgraded to felony murder.

Connie Rockholt, 32, remains behind bars at the Catoosa jail, unable to post bond
