No one knows what has happened to a petition to oust Walker County's school chief. Nathaniel Womble, a constitutional rights advocate, said he "turned in" the petition to Gov. Roy Barnes' office on Nov. 15, while Barnes' press office reports no one in the governor's office has a record of receiving it. "As we get things in, we log them in," said Stephanie Kirijan with the press office. The governor's office has not lost or misplaced the petition, Kirijan said on Monday. The office has not received it, she said. Womble contacted Barnes' office last week upon learning that the office has no record of the petition's receipt, he said. If the petition was not found on Monday, he would send a copy by certified mail and go to the governor's office Tuesday, he said. Womble, who has spearheaded the movement to expel superintendent Truman Atkins, said organizers of the petition drive had collected more than 1,000 signatures when they concluded their drive Oct. 31.
