Catoosa grapplers worked it overtime in the Georgia Class AAAA State Tournament to lead their teams to respectable finishes on Saturday at the Gwinnett Arena.

Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe finished fourth overall with 116.5 points, and the Ringgold wrestlers made an impressive run through the consolations for a surprising fifth place finish.

But neither team had an individual state champion.

Stockbridge won the team title with 171 points, followed by Whitewater and Eastside (tied at 123.5).

LFO’s Lee Allen (135) and Zack Shaw (160) both finished second. Allen finished second in overtime to 7-5 in to Woodward Academy's Tommy Carney, while Shaw fell 6-4 to Whitewater's Jacob Williamson.

Ringgold heavyweight Jesse Peterson also had to settle with runner-up after losing a 2-1 heartbreaker to Madison County’s Brent Russell. He lost the match on a penalty point with :2 to go in perhaps the most controversial match of the finals.

With the score tied 1-1 in the closing seconds of regulation, the official awarded a point to Russell after an in-advertent head-butt call on Peterson with two seconds left. Peterson and Tiger head Coach hil Daniel pleaded their case, but the call stood.

LFO’s Derrick Laney (189) finished third while Joey Halloran (145) was fifth.

Ringgold’s Michael Temple (119) and Zack Hopkins (125) were third and Paul Grant (140), finished fifth
