Catoosa County has two golfers in U.S. Amateu | Sport
Catoosa County will be well represented this week in the U.S. Amateur Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.
Ringgold's Thomas Hagler IV and Luke List are both among the playing field.
Hagler, 22, is a senior golfer at the University of Alabama. Hagler said he felt like he had as good of a chance as anyone at winning the title.
I'm pretty confident in my game," he said. "I'm hitting my tee ball well. I've been working on that because Hazeltine is really tight. If I keep my head on straight, I can do pretty well."
Hagler will be caddied by his golf teacher, Council Fire Golf Club Pro, Richard Rebne.
He said Hagler's biggest asset in the sport is his mental game.
"Thomas can go as far as he wants to go," Redne said. "He has a really good head on his shoulders."
Haglers scorecard this summer includes a third place
finish in the Georgia Amateur Championships, a sixth place finish at the Dogwood Invitational in Atlanta, fourth place in the Southern Amateur in Birmingham, Al., second at the historic Signal Mountain Invitational, second in the North Georgia Invitational in Dalton, second in the Chattanooga Classic, and he tied for medalist honors in the U.S.
Amateur Qualifier in Atlanta.
In the Chattanooga Classic, Hagler turned in his best performance by carding a 17-under for 72-holes.
List, a standout at Vanderbilt University, was the 2004 U.S. Amateur runner-up, which earned him an invitation to the 2005 Masters. He shot 149 in the first two days of last year's event, missing match play cut by three shots.
Stroke play for the U.S. Amateur will be held at Hazeltine and Chaska Town Course.
The field will be cut from 312 to 64 for the match play rounds set to begin on Wednesday.
