A Cedartown businessman has been arrested on a variety of charges after being caught in an underage sex sting, the Rossville Police Department reported.
Julius Winfrey Peek, 67, of 336 ½ Julius Peek Ave. in Cedartown, was arrested by Rossville police on Feb. 14, police reported. A real estate agent, Peek was released on a $25,000 bail on Monday.
According to Rossville Police Department reports:
From Oct. 16 to Feb. 14, Peek exchanged numerous electronic conversations with agents who were posing as a 14-year-old girl, including text messages, emails and cell phone calls.
Peek graphically described sexual acts he planned to consummate with the child.
He was charged with criminal attempt in child molestation, sexual exploitation of children computer pornography and possession of a firearm or knife while trying to commit a crime.
Peek requested photos of the girl and asked for the child to write to him detailing her sexual desires.
On Feb. 14, Peek drove from Cedartown to Rossville to meet with the girl, expecting to have sex with her.
During Peeks drive, he exchanged cell phone calls and text messages with who he thought was the girl.
Upon arrival of the pre-arranged location where Peek was to meet the child, he was arrested by investigators.
Police seized Peeks cell phone, a prescription for Viagra and GPS system, a map book and a .38 caliber handgun.
Peek was interviewed at the Rossville Police Department.
Prior to the interview, Peek was advised of his legal rights, but Peek waived the right to counsel and agreed to discuss the matter with the investigators.
Peek confessed that he had indeed engaged in the communications with the girl, knowing that she was 14-years-old and said that he knew that these actions were illegal.
Peek further admitted to driving from Cedartown with the intent to meet the girl for sex
