Bill Brown of Dublin won the 85th annual Georgia Amateur Championship today at Coosa Country Club when he shot a 2-under 68 to win his first state title.

Brown, who entered the final round three strokes behind third round leader Jeff Knox of Augusta, closed out the 72-hole tournament with a 6-under 274.

Knox, who was the runner-up in the 1998 championship, finished alone in second place this year shooting a final round 3-over 73 and close his scorecard with a 4-under 276.

Ringgold's Thomas Hagler IV and Atlanta West Streib shared third place honors ended the event at 3-under 277, with Hagler posting a 2-over 72 on the final 18 holes and Streib finishing with a 1-over 71.

Cedartown golfer Ryan Zebeau, who opened the tournament shooting a course-record 9-under 61 in the opening round last Thursday, took fifth place and was the only other golfer to finish under-par for the event. He finished at 2-under 278 after carding a 2-over 72 today.

The top 15 golfers in the tournament are automatically exempted from the 2007 Georgia Amateur Championship.
