Mary Hewitt, 82, LaFayetteMary Morrison Hewitt of LaFayette died Wednesday, Sept. 13. She was 82.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin and Charlie Morrison.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Hewitt of LaFayette; sons, Bobby and LeGeary L. Hewitt of LaFayette; sister, Rosie Chapman of LaFayette; brother, Claudius Morrison of Rocky Face; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Hope Cline, 51, Rock SpringHope Ratledge Cline of Rock Spring died Wednesday, Sept. 13, at her home. She was 51.
A dedicated wife, mother and grandmother has been laid to rest and gone home to be with the Lord.
She was preceded in death by father, Elmer Ray Ratledge; one brother.
Survivors include her husband, Ricky A. Cline; children, Heath and Kerri Millsaps, Thomas and Monica Jones; mother, Sara Jane Ratledge; six stepchildren; 16 very special grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers.

Michael Gracy, 42, Ringgold
Michael Dewayne Gracy of Ringgold died unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 11. He was 42.
He is the son of Nancy Gracy of Daytona Beach, Fla., and the late Franklin Buddy Gracy.
An avid fan of Earnhardt, he enjoyed watching the races with his dad and spending time with his mom in Daytona. He also enjoyed football, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends whom he loved greatly. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Pauline Lamb, 92, LaFayette
Pauline Hood Lamb of LaFayette died Wednesday, Sept. 13, at a local nursing home. She was 92.
She was a well-known photographer and owner of Lambs Studio until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of LaFayette Presbyterian Church and a member of Chickamauga Chapter UDC 1091.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Alton Lamb and Frank Oliver; an infant daughter; brothers, Gordon and Guileu Hood.

Alleta Rogers, 72, Tiftonia, Tenn.
Alleta Jinky Rogers died Sept. 12 after a lengthy battle with complications from diabetes. She was 72.
She was born in Bridgeport, Ala., but had lived most of her life in the Tiftonia area where she was a member of Tiftonia Baptist Church. She was an avid outdoorswoman and gardener. She was also an active member of the WFLI softball team and retired from Kay Bee Toys in 1996 after more than 25 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mayme Lee and James Robert Woody.
Survivors include her devoted husband of more than 57 years, Edward Bill Rogers of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Joy Rogers of Tunnel Hill, Robert and Ann Rogers of Lookout Mountain; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue Ann Susie and Donnie Cook of Harrison, Tenn., Jerrie Gale Rogers of Chattanooga; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Buddy and Dot Woody, Glenn and Jean Woody, all of Chattanooga; sister and brother-in-law, Velma and Johnnie Mizell of Chickamauga; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Constance Trapich, 68, Ringgold
Constance Marie Muscarella Trapich of Ringgold died Wednesday, Sept. 13, at her residence. She was 68.
A native of Buffalo, N.Y., she lived in the Ringgold area for the past 28 years and was a former employee of local Golden Gallon and Texaco convenience stores, where she worked for 20 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Cathy Heidkamp of Ringgold; son, Steven Trapich of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; granddaughter, Sherry Heidkamp of Savannah.
Private memorial services will be held at a later time by the family.

Linda Acosta, 52, Fort OglethorpeLinda Darlene Metcalf Acosta of Fort Oglethorpe, beloved mother, daughter and wife, died Monday, Sept. 11. She was 52.
She was born in New Jersey, where she spent most of her life before moving to the north Georgia area in 1989. She was employed with TVA for more than 11 years, after owning and operating The Lord and Lindas Touch, a Christian bookstore and florist in Fort Oglethorpe. She was also an ordained minister and a strong woman of God. She was an excellent mother with a vibrant spirit, with her family being her greatest pride.
She was preceded in death by her father, J.D. Metcalf; grandmother, Ollie Ashford Koger.
Survivors include her husband of five years, George Acosta, and his children and grandchildren; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Gwen Alegre of Chattanooga, Tenn.; daughter Kristina Alegre; mother and stepfather, Jacquelyn and Richard Kitts of Fort Oglethorpe; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Elaine Metcalf of Fort Oglethorpe; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Joe Civinski of New Jersey; three grandchildren, Jagger, Katey and Ben Alegre. Billy Joe Lingerfelt Sr. of Ringgold died Tuesday, Sept. 12, at a local hospital. He was 70.
A resident of the north Georgia area for most of his life, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time at his lake retreat home in Cedar Bluff, Ala.

She was a former employee of Tri-County Hospital/Hutcheson Medical Center, and the former office manager for Dr. Robert H. Creech at the Diabetes Wellness Center. Wanda Faye Ridge of Fort Oglethorpe died Tuesday, Sept. 12, surrounded by her family. She was 65.
She lived in the Chattanooga and north Georgia areas for most of her life and was of the Baptist faith. She had worked many years at Roys Grill in Rossville, but retired from John Ross Restaurant as a waitress, a job that she loved after more than 10 years of service. She was well-known as a strong-willed person and a wonderful cook. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Ridge Jr.; daughter, Debra Ridge.

Catherine Dixon Madaris of LaFayette died Thursday, Sept. 7. She was 78.
She was born Feb. 29, 1928 to the late General and Ida Dixon in Etowah, Ala. She retired from Candlewick Yarns and was a member of Fourth Avenue Church of God. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Franklin Madaris and several brothers and sisters.

Edith Cavell Jones Moore of Rossville died Sunday, Sept. 10. She was 83.
She was born in Jackson County, Ala., but had lived in the north Georgia area for the last 52 years. She was also a member of New Hope Baptist Church and was previously employed with Simco Saddle Co. for more than 10 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hobert and Hester Sparks Jones; husband, William Bill Moore; one brother, Hershel Jones.

Vinnie Mae Parker Morris of LaFayette died Friday Sept. 8, following a short illness. She was 74.
She was retired from the Walker County Department of Education from the Osburn School cafeteria. She was a member of Foster Mill Drive Baptist Church. She had fought ovarian cancer for the past six years through faith and wonderful doctors and remained in remission.

Dr. Bill Perry, 68, Rossville
Dr. Bill Perry of Rossville died Saturday, Sept. 9, at a local hospital surrounded by family and friends. He was 68.
He was pastor of Victory Baptist Church in Rossville for more than 15 years and Second Baptist Church in Chatsworth, and was the founder of the Victory Bible Institute. He also served as regional vice president of Trinity Bible College in Jacksonville, Fla., served on the Board of Faith Baptist Missions and maintained a long association with BIMI. He attended West Georgia College in Carrollton, and Temple Bible College. He hosted the Sonshine Hour, a daily radio ministry and weekly television ministry for many years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. LeRoy Perry; granddaughter, Kristy Leigh Roden.

Jim Tucker, 82, LaFayette
Jim Tucker of LaFayette died Thursday, Sept. 7. He was 82.
He was a native of Illinois and lived in Louisiana for 30 years prior to moving to LaFayette six months ago. He was a member of LaFayette Church of God and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He also was a reserve for the U.S. Marine Corps and a journeyman electrician, owning and operating Tucker Electric.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Art Tucker; sister, Leona Tucker.

Talmadge Tucker, 95, LaFayette
Talmadge Ray Tucker of LaFayette died Thursday, Sept. 7. He was 95.
He was a member of LaFayette First Baptist Church and the Harold Clements Sunday school Class.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Joe Moore of LaFayette; son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Pam Tucker of Calhoun; grandchildren, Paige and Steven Fuller, Jeremy and Charlsie Moore, Jacob Moore, Ray Tucker III, David and Craig Tucker; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Berry College in 1935 with a bachelors degree in agriculture. He became a county supervisor with Farmers Home Administration and later became a district supervisor from 1946 until his retirement in 1977. He then worked as a consultant to Campbell Wallace Engineering Firm, installing water and sewage systems in rural areas for the remainder of his working career.
From 1943 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Army and was discharged as a sergeant major. He was awarded a U.S. Army commendation for service beyond the normal call of duty.
He was also active in church and civic affairs. He had served as director of Sunday school for First Baptist Church of LaFayette for 22 years, as a member and chairman of the Walker County Board of Education, as a charter member and president of the LaFayette Athletic Club, and as an appraiser and instructor for Walker County Technical School. He received the Rotary Club Vocational Service Award in 1978, and the Walker County Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Service Award in 1983.
He received the Berry Alumni Association award of distinguished service in 1983, distinguished award from the University of Georgia Agriculture Alumni Association for outstanding professional services for rural resident, towns and communities in 1977. He also received the Quality Service Award from the Department of Agriculture in 1966, as well as the Superior Service Award from the Department of Agriculture in 1948 and 1951.
A man who unselfishly serves humanity in numerous ways, Mr. Tucker truly exemplifies Berrys motto, Not to be ministered unto, but to minister. Berry College Alumni Association, June 11, 1983.

She was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., and was former employee at Provident Insurance Co. for 18 years. She was a former resident of Chickamauga and had resided in the Naomi community for the past 23 years. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, making crafts, playing tennis and bowling.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Eugene Gene Smith; recent grandfather, Frank Stewart.

Darlene Crowe, 55, Ringgold
Darlene Swaney Crowe of Ringgold died Wednesday, Sept. 6, at a local hospital. She was 55.
Born Oct. 6, 1950, she grew up in the Fairview community of Rossville, and graduated from Rossville High School in 1968. She married Rodney Crowe in 1973 and resided in Ringgold for 33 years, where she was a member of Burning Bush Baptist Church. She had been active with children ministries including Childrens Church and Vacation Bible School. She served many years on the Catoosa County Department of Children and Family Services board of directors. She had volunteered as an ambassador with the Catoosa County Chamber of Commerce, and also volunteered with youth baseball programs at Ringgold Middle and Ringgold High schools. She loved Ringgold High School baseball and the Atlanta Braves. She had worked at Salem Carpet Mills, Becklers Carpets and Ringgold High School, and with her husband Rodney Crowe, CPA. She had fought a long, brave battle with melanoma. She loved her many friends in her neighborhood at Cherokee Springs Lake subdivision where her special interest was children. She loved to fish in the lake there where she had taught many of the neighborhood children to fish.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dave and Hazel Swaney; brothers, Dennis, Kenneth, Darrell, David and Bobby Swaney.

Jerry Ollon Moses of East Ridge, Tenn., died Tuesday, Sept. 5. He was 65.
He was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., but had grown up in the Sulphur Springs, Ala., area. He was a member of Valley Memorial Baptist Church, where he was the adult minister of education. He owned and operated Moses Plumbing Co. for more than 40 years before retiring in July of this year. His passion in life was teaching the Bible, and his love for his children and grandchildren.

She was a charter member of Boynton Church of God where she faithfully served as the church clerk and a Sunday School teacher. She was employed by Sears at Hamilton Place with 15 years of service.

Gertrude Jackson, 92, Signal Mountain, Tenn.
Gertrude Jackson of Signal Mountain, Tenn., died Wednesday, Aug. 30. She was 92.
She served as a hospital nutritionist for many years and, at the time of her death, was a resident of Alexian Village. She will be taken to Detroit, Mich., for burial at Oak View Cemetery.

Joe Stone III, 42, Chickamauga
Joseph Harris Joe Stone III of Chickamauga died Thursday, Aug. 31, at a local hospital. He was 42.
He was a lifelong resident of north Georgia and was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Stone Jr.
Survivors include his daughter, Meagan Stone of Chickamauga; mother, Gail Stone of Chickamauga; sister, Melba Humble of Fort Oglethorpe; several aunts, uncles, two nieces and cousins.
