William Cobb, 78, ChickamaugaWilliam Earl Cobb of Chickamauga died Sunday, Sept. 26. He was 78.
He was a native of Sweetwater, Tenn., and grew up in Chattanooga. He had lived in Cali-fornia for 50 years before moving to Chickamauga seven years ago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II and the Korean War. He was a retired pipe and steamfitter. He had worked all over the world and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in California.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Shinpo Cobb.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, John and Kim Cobb of California; daugh-ter, Billie Joe Villaraza of California; brothers, Alvin Boyd Cobb of Ringgold, Kenneth Eugene Cobb of Washington; sister, Anitha M. Sweeney of Naples, Fla.; grandchildren, Carly and Alison Cobb, John and Michael Frameni, all of California.

Clovis Dellinger, 67, Ringgold
Clovis “Dell” Dellinger of Ringgold died Saturday Aug. 14. He was 67.
He was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 25 years, having served all around the world including Turkey, Germany, England and Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Richard F. Allen and Kenneth Dale Allen.

Thomas Graham, 51, Chickamauga
Thomas Michael Graham of Chickamauga died Saturday, Sept. 25. He was 51.
He was born in Chickamauga and had lived most of his life there. He graduated from Gordon Lee Memorial High School in 1972. He served in the U.S. Navy and had been a pro-fessional photographer for the past 33 years. He was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas Harold and Clara McBride Gra-ham, and Thomas and Lorene Mae Simms Skipper.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Hale Graham of Chattanooga, Tenn.; parents, Tho-mas David and Doris Louise Skipper Graham of Chickamauga; stepchildren, Delaine Gibson of Savannah, Shay Turner of Camp LeJeune, N.C.; brother, Steven P. Toley “Joe” Saenbouttarath of Chickamauga died Monday, Sept. 27. He was 13.
He was an eighth-grade student at Rossville Middle School.

She was a native of Harrison, Tenn., and lived in north Georgia for the past 54 years. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Davis; mother and stepfather, Catherine and Eugene Holder; sisters, Helen Harvey and Kay Johnston.

Owen Asher, 66, LaFayetteOwen Asher of LaFayette died Sunday, Sept. 26, at a local hospital. He was 66.
A native of Pineville, Ky., he lived in LaFayette for the past 50 years. He was a former employee of Roper Corp., where he worked for nine years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of LaFayette Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his father, Shelby Asher; sister, Catherine Dennison; brother, Howard Asher.

Gladys Collier of Flintstone died Sunday, Sept. 26, in a local hospital. She was 82.
She had been a resident of Flintstone for 46 years, moving from Red Bank, Tenn. She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church and was known for her giving heart.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Blevins.

Howard Derrick, 84, Ringgold
Dr. Howard Clifton Derrick Jr. of Ringgold died Friday, Sept. 24. He was 84.
Formerly of LaFayette, his Walker County career began after he obtained a bachelor of science degree from Mercer University and graduated from the Medical College of Georgia. Upon completing an internship at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn., the general practitioner established himself in the tri-state area. As his practice, which spanned several generations, expanded, the spirited doctor with the Southern drawl became involved in local politics.
His tenure as mayor of LaFayette from 1959 to 1973 enveloped a combination of count-less civic and professional commitments, from physician for the city of LaFayette, for Walker County for 25 years, to receiving the Civic Endeavor Award from the state of Georgia Medical Association. Other memberships included the Walker/Catoosa/Dade Medical Soci-ety, Southern Medical Association of Georgia, Georgia Academy of Family Practitioners, Medical Association of Georgia, Charter Diplomat in the American Academy of Family Phy-sicians, medical staff of Continuing Education of Tennessee Medical Schools, Phi Rhu Sigma Fraternity, Rotary International, Paul Harris Fellow, Service Above Self Award by LaFayette Rotary Club, Exceptional Service to the Community and Fellowman Award by the LaFayette area Chamber of Commerce.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. The life Christ gave him was spent in his selfless service to Christ, his family and others.

David Grigsby, 74, East Armuchee
W. David Grigsby of East Armuchee died Saturday, Sept. 25. He was 74.
He was married for 54 years and was a devoted husband and grandfather. He was a member and deacon of Subligna Baptist Church. He was also a veteran of the Korean War 25th Infantry, a volunteer firefighter with Station 14, a member of Sons of Confederacy, an avid traveler, genealogist and local historian. He was employed with Dupont for 35 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Evalee Reed Grigsby.

Ralph Leonard Jarnagin of Chickamauga died Thursday, Sept. 23. He was 76.
He was born in Jackson County, Ala., to the late John C. and Cecil Madge Turner Jar-nagin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he received the American Theater medal and the World War II Victory medal. He had lived in Chattanooga and for the past 31 years lived in Chickamauga. He worked with his brother at Jarnagin Fence Co., for more than 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John C. Jarnagin Jr., who died serving his country in World War II.

Betty Collett, 64, LaFayetteBetty Jane Crawford Collett of LaFayette died Thursday, Sept. 23. She was 64.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Nathaniel Macon and Antoinette Craw-ford, Robert Lee and Georgia Susan Robertson; brother, Robert Benjamin “Bob” Crawford; parents, Benjamin Sheram “Ben” and Jimmie Inez “Mama Jim” Crawford.
She wore many different hats in her life from 1940 to 2004. She was a member of LaFayette United Methodist Church, where she was active over the years in teaching, hand-bells and United Methodist Women. She worked for approximately eight years for W.L. Abney, Walker County probate judge, State Department of Education, Atlanta, and Harold Clements, Walker County clerk of court. She went to work at LaFayette Truck and Tractor, which became Crawford Pointiac/Buick/GMC. First, she was Mrs. Puckett’s helper, and when Mrs. Puckett retired, she was told by her daddy to “sit at Mrs. Puckett’s desk and make like a bookkeeper.” She remained at that position for 36 years. Then she walked across the street to be the title clerk for Jackson Chevrolet/Pontiac/Buick/GMC.
When in good health, she enjoyed participating in the Chattanooga/LaFayette Emmaus community.
Survivors include her sisters and brother-in-law, Evelyn Lipham of Gainesville, Fla., Sara and Dr. Robert T. Jones of LaFayette; brother and sister-in-law, John M. and Donna Crawford Sr. of LaFayette; nieces and nephews, Teresa Stephenson, Steve, Rosalind, Zeb and Emma Chapman, Eric, Sandra, Ross and Wade Stephenson, Mark Stephenson, Dewey, Becky, Daniel, Lauren and Virginia Hammond, Matt, Lori, Grayson, Maria and Elliana Hammond, John Jr., Alexandra, Madison and Sabrina Crawford, Ben and Laura Crawford and Robert Crawford. Wesley Lockman, 79, Ringgold
Wesley Hubert Lockman of Ringgold died Wednesday, Sept. 22, at his home. He was 79.
He lived in the Ringgold area for more than 50 years, working for Western Union and re-tiring from J.C. Penney in the early 1990s. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a medic. He received the American Theater Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Phillipine Liberation Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Occupation Medal and four Bronze Service Stars. He was a member of Gospel Way Church in Ringgold and earlier in his life was a member of American Motorcycle Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; several sisters and brothers.

Vivian Ellis, 87, LaFayetteAnne Vivian Shaw Ellis of LaFayette died Saturday, Sept. 18. She was 87.
She was born in North Carolina to the late Faison and Lillian Smith Shaw. She was a public health nurse in Alabama and Georgia, where she served for 24 years and became the regional Director of Public Health for Geor-gia. She served as parish nurse, taught Sunday school and was a member of WMU at First Baptist Church of LaFayette. She was a member of AARP, the Crochet Club, the Silver-Haired Legislature, a Hutcheson Hospice vol-unteer and a former Hutcheson Medical Center board member. She graduated from Montreat College, received her bachelor of arts degree from Peabody and her master’s degree from the University of North Carolina. She served as a missions volunteer to South Africa, New Zealand, India, Houston, Texas and Phoenix, Ariz. She was the devoted wife of the late James Albert Ellis.

William Fred Jackson Jr. of Rossville died Wednesday, Sept. 15. He was 78.
He was a lifelong resident of Rossville and was a member of East Ridge Church of God. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps as a staff sergeant after more than 20 years of service, during which time he served during World War II and the Korean conflict. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with three stars, the Korean Serv-ice Medal, the Expert Rifle Badge, and the Pistol Sharpshooter Badge.

Quintin Jagger, 36, RossvilleQuintin Vern “Quinn” Jagger of Rossville died Wednesday, Sept. 15, at his home. He was 36.
A native of Hillsdale, Mich., he had lived in Rossville for the past 12 years. He was a much-loved teacher in Walker County, having taught at Rossville Elementary and Chatta-nooga Valley Elementary School. He was a graduate of Camden-Frontier High School in Camden, Mich., and Hillsdale College in Hillsdale. He taught pre-K in Hillsdale prior to moving to Rossville. He was a member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church in Chat-tanooga. He was a great person, wonderful husband, loving father, and caring son. He will greatly be missed by all whose lives he had touched.

Alma Burnette, 72, East Ridge, Tenn.Alma Jean Burnette of East Ridge, Tenn., died Monday, Sept. 13, in a local health care facility. She was 72.

Johnny Ray “Curly” Wallin Sr. of Rossville died Thursday, Sept. 9, in a local hospital. He was 80.

Donald Carlock Sr., 77, RinggoldDonald Carlock Sr. of Ringgold died Thursday, Sept. 9. He was 77.
He was born July 18, 1927 to Thomas Eugene Carlock and Gladys Louise Hullender Car-lock. He graduated from Central High School in Chattanooga, Tenn. He received his high school diploma early in order to enlist in the U.S. Navy during World War II and again dur-ing the Korean War. He graduated with a degree in business administration from the Uni-versity of Chattanooga and was retired from DuPont after 41 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post 40, where he was past commander. He had been a member of Boynton Baptist Church for more than 50 years and was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Iva Lee Benefield Carlock; son and daughter-in-law, Patricia and Ted Nave of Ringgold; son, Donald E.
