Dear editor:

Although over 650 were in attendance at the sixth annual Armed Forces Veterans Barbecue held on Armed Forces Day on the weekend before Memorial Day and while other newspapers in our surrounding counties provided excellent coverage of their community’s celebrations in honor of our veterans on the front page in full color, I was disheartened that our local newspaper buried coverage of the sixth annual Armed Forces Veterans Barbecue on page three of the Friday, May 29, edition (with less circulation) and only offered one black and white photo of those that served our country from our area.

Walker County is steeped in tradition and history and we must ensure that the veterans’ contribution to America’s history continues to be passed on to future generations, so that their sacrifice is never forgotten and their memory is kept alive.
