COMMUNITY · Battlefield Farmers Market will hold their annual membership drive at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at the Walker County Agricultural Center located just behind the Walker County Civic Center off Highway 27 in Rock Spring. The meeting is open to new members, long-standing members, supporters and volunteers. Battlefield Farmers Market members support the area’s local economy by growing and selling fresh fruits, vegetables, breads, eggs and grass-fed beef at the Walker County Agricultural Center. This years’ market is scheduled to open Saturday, May 4, and will run through Nov. 9 for the 2013 season. COMMUNITY · Young Harris College student Marshall Scoggins, a freshman music major from LaFayette, will perform at the YHC Guitar Ensemble concert on Tuesday, March 19, at 7 p.m. in Susan B. Harris Chapel on the YHC campus. Scoggins is a graduate of LaFayette High School and the son of Terrell Scoggins.

COMMUNITY · The La Fayette-Walker County Public Library will have their Ready to Read Story Time on Tuesday, March 19, at 10:30 a.m. This program prepares children for school with books, songs, games and activities.

RELIGIOUS · A 14-week course entitled Leadership Beyond: 8 Core Values for Christian Leadership will be offered on Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. 1 p.m. at Park Place Restaurant in Fort Oglethorpe beginning March 19. Pre-registration is required. There is no charge for the course, but participants are expected to purchase their own lunch. Leadership Beyond was developed from global research by International Leadership Institute. The course is open to all Christians and will be taught by Rev. COMMUNITY · Registration is open for the sixth annual Berry Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K races to be run Saturday, March 23, at Berry College in Rome. The Berry Half Marathon raises funds for need-based scholarships to the local (Rome) elementary and middle school. Runners have given to Soles4Soles in past years, and organizers plan to continue to support this charity, as well as contribute $1 for each pair of shoes donated to help offset the cost of mailing the shoes to needed destinations. There will be collection boxes set up at race registration March 22 and 23. There will also continue to be a collection site for Medals4Mettle, a non-profit organization that facilitates the gifting of marathon, half marathon, and triathlon finishers’ medals to children and adults fighting debilitating diseases. ENTERTAINMENT · Now through April 15, the Tennessee Aquarium will offer kids, ages six and up, special activities designed to give up-close creature encounters. Young visitors can sign up for two of the 17 different adventures upon arrival. These are offered free with Aquarium admission on a first-come, first-served basis. Whether it’s feeding otters, trout or turtles, kids can meet Aquarium experts and tour areas that are normally off-limits to guests. This class will educate patients and caregivers on the basic nutritional needs as they progress trough their cancer treatment as well as to address treatment side effects impacting nutrition such as nausea/vomiting, taste alteration, dry mouth, sore mouth, decrease appetite, etc.

COMMUNITY · Catoosa County's First Annual Diaper Drive hosted by the Battlefield Civitan Club is going on now. Diapers for newborns to adults can be donated through March 23 at Sentry Station Tire located at 2645 Battlefield Parkway in Fort Oglethorpe.
