Georgia’s first lady Sandra Deal on Tuesday, March 5, read a poem and story to the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes at Battlefield Primary School in Catoosa County. Deal, a former school teacher, was very interactive in her time with the children. The children, in-turn, all seemed to enjoy themselves as much as the first lady. Asked to rate the favorite part of her job, she answered, “I think you’ve just seen it!” Superintendent of schools Denia Reese said of the day, “It’s just incredible. That the first lady would take her time to come and read for these kids is so special, especially for the children.” Her visit was part of a tour of about a dozen elementary schools in northwest Georgia to promote literacy.
