A Summerville man was arrested on several charges following an accident on Feb. 19 in Walker County.

According to Georgia State Patrol:

Samuel Zack Puckett, 47, of Dry Creek was arrested following a DUI accident. He was charged with hit and run, driving on a revoked/suspended license, driving under the influence, and following to closely.

Puckett man was driving east on Ga. 136 around 7 p.m. in a 1989 Dodge D-100 when he clipped the rear end of a 1997 Olds Cutlass that had slowed and was turning onto Sales Lane, according to Sgt. First Class McConathy.

Skid marks show that Puckett slid 168 feet before striking the vehicle in front of him, which continued another 126 feet until the car hit a fence.

Puckett continued driving the damaged vehicle a bit further, turning onto Furnace Creek, until it gave out on the side of the road.

Puckett abandoned the car and fled on foot. He made it to a gas station (1.5 miles away) and was attempting to make a phone call when authorities found him, according to McConathy.

The collision spun the Cutlass 180 degrees, but did not cause any injuries to the two occupants.

Troopers noticed a strong smell of alcohol from Puckett. He refused to take a Breathalyzer test upon arrival at the jail.
