A Resaca man died Thursday following a fall while on the job the previous day, according to Gordon County Deputy Coroner Bo Nicholson.

The man was identified as 21-year-old Leo James Pastrana of a Resaca address, Nicholson said.

According to Nicholson, Pastrana was at work at Resaca Sun Products Wednesday when he fell from some machinery approximately 15-feet to the ground.

He was airlifted to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. He was pronounced dead on Thursday as a result of the injuries sustained in the fall, Nicholson said.

Pastrana’s body was sent to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy, which is standard procedure when someone dies of a work related injury, Nicholson said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Gordon County Coroner’s Office are conducting an investigation of the accident, Nicholson said.

A spokesperson for Resaca Sun Products declined to comment on the accident when reached by phone Friday. The company processes Canola and Sunflower seeds for meal and oil, according to its website.
