A LaFayette man was arrested for assaulting a woman.

According to the Walker County Sheriff’s office:

Jamie Raymond Dukes of Corinth Road in LaFayette was arrested on Jan. 1.

The 45-year-old man and the woman had been at home drinking during on New Year’s Eve.

The woman received a text message. Dukes grabbed the phone from her, which led to an argument. She tried to leave, but he would not allow that to happen and ripped the purse from her arm, according to the victim statement.

Dukes then allegedly grabbed her by the throat, which he denies. The woman managed to get away and called a 911 operator from a neighbor’s home.

He faces charges of false imprisonment, battery, criminal trespass and hindering a 911 call.
