A Harrison, Tenn., man was arrested in Fort Oglethorpe on multiple drug charges following a routine traffic stop for faulty tail lights along Battlefield Parkway.

According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:

Walter Thomas, 45, of Harvest Run in Harrison, Tenn., was arrested on Sunday, Jan. 6, on charges of possession of cocaine, possession of a schedule IV drug, driving while license suspended, and taillights requirement. He has been released from jail on bond.

The traffic stop was initiated by officer Greg Cross at approximately 4:07 a.m.

“I performed the stop west of LaFayette Road after I observed the vehicle traveling west on Battlefield Parkway with no taillights,” Cross said. “I asked the driver for his license, and dispatch advised that his license was suspended.”

Thomas was asked to step out of the vehicle, and was placed under arrest.

“While handcuffing Thomas, I noticed that he dropped a small plastic baggy which contained a small rock-like substance,” Gross said. “Thomas stated that it was crack cocaine.”

Thomas was patted down and additional drugs were located, reports show.

“While searching Thomas, I found a small baggy, which contained four yellow pills in his right front pocket of his jeans,” Cross said. “He (Thomas) stated that the pills were Xanax.”

The evidence was collected to be submitted to the crime lab, and Thomas was transported to Catoosa County jail without incident.
