According to Keena Anderson, two unidentified men stole a cane from her 78-year-old mother Barbara while she was attempting to get into her vehicle after shopping on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
“She was in the parking lot at the Shop-Rite in downtown Ringgold and had the cane leaning up against her bumper,” Anderson said. “Then two men grabbed the can and took off with it.”
Anderson says the two men sped away in a red Honda pickup truck, and that her mother eventually got in her car and went after them.
“She tried following them and lost them while she was chasing them down Salem Valley Road,” Anderson said. “Mom said that she couldn't get a tag number from the truck.”
While stealing a cane from an elderly person is a crude act in itself, Anderson says that the theft of such a personal item is what has hurt her family the most.
“The cane isn't really worth any money, but it’s worth something to us,” she said. “Not only has my mother used the cane for awhile, but it belonged to her mother. It's more the sentimental value than anything.”
