After dropping their season opener two weeks ago, the Georgia Northwestern Bobcats finally broke into the win column for the first time this season after splitting a pair of games at the Welch College Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. last week.

Piedmont 60, GNTC 49

This past Thursday, sophomore All-Region and All-District first teamer Alex Miller led the Bobcats with 16 points, but Mike Key finished with a game-high 21 points to lead Piedmont International to the win.

GNTC trailed by 15 at halftime to the against the four-year college squad out of Winston-Salem, N.C., and the lead would grow to as many as 21 before the Bobcats made things interesting.

The Bobcats would slice the lead down to nine points in the latter stages, but could not get any closer.

Quinton Cotton had 10 points in the loss while Hunter Ivester finished with seven.

GNTC 68, Trinity Baptist 67

One night later, Miller went for 18 points and the Bobcats moved to 1-2 overall with a narrow win.

“They played like I knew they could,” said head coach David Stephenson. “All out, fundamental, trying to make the right things happen at the right time. Incredible hustle by this young team. We have a ton of talent and speed. They are young, but they are trying to figure out how to work together best within the system. It’s starting to come, though, slowly but surely.”

The Bobcats will step up in classification with a game at Lee University on Tuesday before returning home of Thursday to host Crown College at the Rossville Athletic Center.
