The reasoning is a two-fold concern for children who play in the park who use the restroom and for the hazard to emergency vehicles and oncoming vehicle due to the close proximity of garage facilities adjacent to the road.
Citizens may still use the parking spaces when visiting the police station, according to captain Stacey Meeks with the LaFayette Police Department.
Those visiting Joe Stock Park may still enter the parking area from the east side of Wardlaw Street.
The new signage prohibiting thru-traffic was placed on Thursday, Oct. 25.
