A Chattanooga man was arrested after police questioned him about a shoplifting incident and quickly discovered that he was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants.

According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:

Chad Allan Sisson, 32, of East Boy Scout Road in Chattanooga, Tenn., was arrested on Saturday, Oct. 20, for possession of marijuana (less than one ounce), as well as active warrants for theft by taking and probation violation.

Sisson remained Friday in the Catoosa County jail with a bond set at $3,100 for the drug charge. As of Friday, Oct. 26, he was not eligible to be bonded out due to the other felony warrants that had no bond set for them.

Officers were dispatched to the Wal-Mart at 3040 Ga. 2 (Battlefield Parkway) just after 3 a.m. on Oct. 20 in reference to a shoplifting incident, in which store employees were unsuccessful in attempting to detain the suspect.

"Upon my arrival, I spoke with the night manager who advised me that a male subject entered the store and placed several items in his jacket, and then walked outside passing all points of purchase," officer Michael Cannon said. "He stated that when he tried to stop the male subject, he refused and directed a second male to get back in the car."

The manager stated that the passenger soon thereafter exited the vehicle at the traffic light in front of the store while the shoplifting suspect drove away headed eastbound on Battlefield Parkway, reports show.

"The store manager pointed out the second male who was standing beside a vehicle talking to someone," Cannon said. "I then spoke with Mr. Sisson and detained him until it could be established whether or not he was involved with the theft."

During questioning, it was determined that Sisson had not entered the store and that he would not be charged with anything pertaining to the shoplifting incident, reports show.

However, Sisson's information was ran through both the National and Georgia Crime Information Centers (NCIC/GCIC), and it was discovered that he had multiple active warrants, and therefore was arrested and transported to Catoosa County jail.

Sisson was searched after arriving at the detention center, at which time officers found a small clear bag containing marijuana in his pants, reports show.

The marijuana was placed into evidence, and Sisson was processed without further incident.
