“We are so excited about the new opportunities that are coming our way,” said Mike Proctor, CEO, Old Mill Kettle Corn. “Our business continues to grow within the southeastern region.”
Proctor said the expansion will include a new 3,000-square-foot building to be added to their existing facility, along with new production equipment for increased manufacturing.
“I am so pleased that this native Walker County company continues to experience such good fortune,” said Walker County commissioner Bebe Heiskell. “They have a great product that is enjoyed by so many people.”
Old Mill Kettle Corn produces a variety of flavored popcorn products sold in many regional retail applications, including both grocery and convenience stores.
The company first entered the retail market in 2009, stocking shelves with its original recipe.
“Production is expected to begin in the new facility in mid-December,” said Walker County economic development director Larry Brooks.
The company employees 30, but expects to hire more as the business grows.
“We are anticipating a very large retail expansion of our product next year,” Proctor said, adding that the company is working on a very aggressive marketing campaign.
Starting in March, the campaign will utilize a strategy made famous by fictional candy maker Willy Wonka, he said.
“We are going to be putting golden kernel tokens in our bags of popcorn that will award the lucky winner with special prizes,” Proctor said, like cash and other items. “The token will have information on how to access our website so the winners can redeem their prizes.”
