Rossville (4-0) took the opening kickoff and clicked off a 78-yard drive on the legs of Jalyn Shelton and Chris Henderson. Grayson Moore capped the march with a 29-yard touchdown run and Henderson added the two-point conversion.
The Bulldogs then forced a punt by the Warriors, which was blocked by Henderson and returned 25 yards for a score by Christian Gentry. Hunter McKenzie's conversion run quickly made it 16-0.
Henderson came up big on special teams on the ensuing kickoff, recovering a Lakeview fumble to set up the Bulldogs in great field position. Shelton added to the lead on a 37-yard TD run.
Yet another Henderson fumble recovery got the ball back for the Blue-and-White, and Shelton caught two passes on the enusing possession, the second for a 16-yard TD from McKenzie.
McKenzie capped the scoring for Rossville with a 27-yard TD run in the third quarter with Henderson converting on the two-point run.
Shelton paced the offense with 153 yards on 11 rushes, while catching two passes for 26 yards. Moore had 67 yards on six carries, Henderson added 42 yards on four carries, and McKenzie rushed three times for 33 yards.
Gentry led the defensive effort with six tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. McKenzie racked up 10 tackles, and Henderson added five tackles in addition to his big day on special teams.
"Lakeview played tough defense and wanted to limit our big plays," Rossville head coach Steve Lewis said. "We had to grind out our yards and work for our scores. They had a great game plan, but eventually our backs started making longer runs as our line adjusted to their defense. Defensively, we made a few errors that we must eliminate, but we are slowly getting players returning from injury and should help make us tougher."
Rossville is now tied with Heritage atop the NGAC standings. Those two teams will square off on Thursday at Rossville.
