COMMUNITY · The 26th annual Summerville–Trion Optimist Club Tennis Tournament to benefit the local Optimist Club scholarship fund will be held Thursday, Oct. 4 through Sunday, Oct. 7, at the Summerville Recreation Center, Trion Recreation Center, and Trion High School. Events scheduled are singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Adult divisions will be 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, and open. Junior divisions will be 18-under, 15-under, 12-under, and 10-under. COMMUNITY · Tryouts will be held in LaFayette for an all-female football team. The North Georgia Thrashers are a new women’s football team trying to gain approval into the Women’s Football Alliance. All tryouts are at LaFayette High School at 10 a.m. every Saturday in September and the first two Saturdays in October. The team is accepting women of all shapes and sizes and ages 18 and older.
