Rossville Middle School softball team topples Trion

The Lady Bulldogs picked up their first league win of the softball season, and their third overall, with a 9-6 victory over Trion on Thursday.

Down 4-2 entering the bottom of third inning, Rossville picked up three runs to take the lead. Courtney Goins drove in Brooke Wagner with the first run, Jennifer Coates plated Autumn Perry with a gapper to centerfield, and Makenzie Howard got a base hit to drive in Cortney Mooneyham to give the Lady Bulldogs a 5-4 lead.

Callie Scroggins added an RBI-double and stole home in the fourth, and Mooneyham would come home on a passed ball later in the game to cap the scoring for Rossville.

Perry pitched three innings, striking out three and walking one. Coates came on in relief and worked four innings with three strikeouts and three walks.

Howard had a huge day at the plate with three hits and five RBIs, while Wagner and Coates also had three hits. Domonique Stubbs was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored, while Perry and Mooneyham each had two hits and scored twice.

Scroggins and Madison Simmons each had a hit and scored a run.
