About 1,200 runners are expected to participate in the third annual Dalton Red Carpet half-marathon on Saturday, Oct. 6, in downtown Dalton.

Kicking off the event the previous day, Friday night, Oct. 5, is a concert featuring “American Idol” runner-up and Catoosa County native Lauren Alaina. She will perform at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center in Dalton.

Ticket cost for the concert is $15 for the general public, but a limited number of tickets will be available to DRCHM/5K runners at the discounted price of $10 each (plus handling charges).

The concert is expected to sell out, so registering for the race and purchasing discounted tickets as soon as possible is recommended.

Doors open for the concert at 6 p.m. Friday, with the concert from 7 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at daltontradecenter.com or at the Trade Center box office, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Routes for Saturday's marathon travel through the historic streets and neighborhoods of Dalton, around the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and end back downtown for the finish line.

Those wishing to take a shorter route can sign up for the 5K or 2K fun runs. Also offered are the Red Carpet Cup team competitions for businesses, churches or other organizations. For more info, go daltonredcarpethalfmarathon.com.

Runners can register for the half-marathon and 5K races at active.com. Cost ranges from $15-$60.

After the race, runners and guests can enjoy the balance of the day in historic downtown Dalton, browsing food booths and listening to music at the celebration festival.
