“In order for the community and area businesses to thrive, we need to focus on our community and how to improve our town,” said Melinda’s Catering owner Melinda Speir.
To assist in those efforts, her business has been active in the annual Music on The Square Memorial Day Music Festival and the new DDA-sponsored, monthly movie night, she said.
Speir said she is glad her business is downtown.
“When I was growing up, Durden’s Bakery was on the east side of the square, and I always visited it daily after school,” she said.
Melinda’s caters large or small venues, weddings, rehearsal dinners, bridal luncheons, corporate dinners, luncheons, full-course meals-to-go, desserts, etc., she said.
Since opening four years ago, the business has expanded to offer more items and services, including wedding cakes, birthday cakes, hand-decorated cookies, gift baskets filled with Vidalia onion products, homemade breads, cookies, miniature cakes, cream horns, fresh made candies, praline pecans and a lot more, she said.
“Around the holiday seasons, we offer several different items for that special time of year,” Speir said, adding that the business delivers in the LaFayette area.
Her customers drop by frequently to pick up banana nut bread, thumb print cookies, cupcakes and other items the business carries, she said.
“We specialize in catering to meet every customer’s needs, and the food is prepared fresh daily,” she said.
Speir is the business’ only employee. She said she does not plan to expand her business in the near future.
