COMMUNITY · Cholestech lipid and glucose screenings will be held from 8 a.m.-noon Wednesday, July 25, at Erlanger North (Morrison Springs Road-Chattanooga area). A lipid panel will show HDL, LDL, Total cholesterol, non-HDL, cholesterol ratio and triglycerides. A 12-hour fast is required to produce an accurate result. No eating or drinking coffee prior to the test, but drink water the night before and morning of testing. Reservations are required, no walk-ins will be taken. Lipid plus glucose is $25. COMMUNITY · The YMCA Summer Food Program begins today in a new location at LaFayette Municipal Park, at LaFayette Recreation (Department), 638 South Main Street in LaFayette. Children will be served free lunches from noon-1 p.m. at the picnic tables and pavilion next to the gym entrance. The program will continue now through August. Each year the U.S. Department of Agriculture partners with local organizations like North Georgia Community YMCA to provide free meals to children when school is out for the summer. COMMUNITY · PSA screenings will be held from 8-11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Erlanger North (Morrison Springs Road-Chattanooga area). The PSA test is primarily used to screen for prostate cancer in men before symptoms appear. This is a quick blood draw from the arm with results mailed at a later date. Men must be at least 50 years old unless he is between 45 and 50 years old with a family history of prostate cancer. Cost for the screening is $15. Registration is required. COMMUNITY · A childbirth education class will be held from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Erlanger East (Gunbarrel Road, Chattanooga). This childbirth education class is designed for expectant parents and taught by experienced OB nurses. Topics include stages of labor, relaxation and labor support techniques, hospital procedures, pain management options, after birth and home care for moms and in-hospital care for newborns. COMMUNITY · Junior golfers up to age 18 are invited to attend summer golf camps at the LaFayette Golf Course. The camps will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9-11 a.m. each day at a cost of $60 per camp. Tuesdays will include work on the driving range, Wednesdays will be spent on the practice greens, and Thursdays will be reserved for on course work. The camps will be directed and taught by Eddie Jackson, a former PGA Tour player who has spent the past 27 years as a teaching professional. COMMUNITY · ERSA and Rossville Rec will be hosting a soccer camp from 9 a.m.-noon Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28, at the Rossville Soccer Field at the Rossville Recreation Center, 301 Williams Street in Rossville. The cost is $30 per player. Coach Liburd is the head coach for the TN Temple University Men’s soccer team and will have coaches and players assisting with camp.
