COMMUNITY · Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and Outdoor Chattanooga are offering a series of free, monthly historical bike tours through Chickamauga Battlefield. The public is invited to bring their bicycles and join in these leisurely-paced historical rides, which take about two hours. Loaner bicycles from the Outdoor Chattanooga Mobile Bicycle Fleet will be available for riders five feet tall and over at no charge, thanks to sponsorship from the Friends of the Park and the Chattanooga Bicycle Club. Reservations for these bicycles are required; contact the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center at 706-866-9241. Ride length is three to four miles on flat to moderately hilly terrain. The rides are appropriate for adults and children ages eight and older when accompanied by an adult. All participants are required to wear helmets. Additional Saturday battlefield bicycle tours are scheduled for Aug. 18, Sept. 15, and Oct. 20.

COMMUNITY · A memorial service will be held for the late Alyadean Sisson Dale of Palatka, Fla., formerly of north Georgia. COMMUNITY · Chief Vann House Days will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, July 21. The historic site is three miles west of Chatsworth, at the intersection of State Highways 52A and 225. Watch demonstrations of 19th Century pottery making, flute making, basket weaving, quilting, spinning, rug making, blacksmithing, wood carving, and blowgun shooting. There also will be storytelling, a short film and interpretive displays. Admission is $6 for adults, $5.50 for seniors and $4 for youth ages 6-17.

COMMUNITY · Chattanooga State Community College will hold its third annual Family Fish Fry in July from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, July 21. The free event will take place outside the student center on the main campus. Members of the Student Affairs team will be available to assist guests with completing the admissions process, applying for financial aid, academic assessment, advising, registering for fall classes, paying fees, or completing any other unfinished tasks. Fall classes begin on Saturday, Aug. 25. Due to the hectic nature of the fall semester, completing all of the components of admission and registration in advance prepares new students for a successful start at Chattanooga State. COMMUNITY · UTC College of Business launches a Veterans Entrepreneurship Boot Camp, Saturday, July 21-Saturday, July 28. UTC is partnering with Oklahoma State’s School of Entrepreneurship to offer this program, which is a series of training modules designed by UTC and OSU faculty and successful entrepreneurs to provide participating veterans with the nuts and bolts of small business start-up and leadership. The VEP program is offered entirely free to qualified, disabled veterans who have been accepted into the program. COMMUNITY · An antique typewriter exhibit is ongoing at Chattooga Academy in LaFayette. The exhibit features Royal, Underwood and Smith typewriters, as well as Imperial and Smith-Corona typewriters. An Oliver No. 9 is also on display. The typewriters were manufactured approximately from between 1915-1950. A volunteer will be on-hand to assist visitors with the exhibit today, Sunday, from 1-3 p.m. Chattooga Academy is open from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. most days Monday through Friday.
