COMMUNITY · U.S. Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-9) has announced a series of Walker County Days as part of his 9th Congressional District county connection program. A constituent services representative from Graves’ office will be available to meet with local constituents Tuesday, July 17, from 1 to 3 p.m. The constituent services representative will be available at the Walker County Courthouse Annex, 101 South Duke St., LaFayette. Staff members are trained to assist Georgians with casework, questions and concerns pertaining to federal programs or policy issues.

COMMUNITY · Teens are invited to the LaFayette-Walker County Public Library at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, recycle old books into glow-in-the-dark beads.

ENTERTAINMENT · The Rossville Public Library will host a summer reading ending party with Cliff Patton at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, that the Rossville Civic Center. Cliff is a master ventriloquist, comedy magician and a balloon artist. Refreshments will be provided.

EDUCATION · Chattanooga State Community College will host “Transfer to ChattState Day” on Tuesday, July 17, from 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. in the faculty/staff dining room located in the Omniplex Building on the main campus. The event is specifically designed for students who may have attended another college or university and now desire to transfer to Chattanooga State. Students should bring a copy of their transcripts. COMMUNITY · “Tales of the Unknown: Magic, Mystery and Mind Reading” at the Chickamauga Public Library, at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 17. This program will be presented by Tommy Johns and is geared toward teens and adults.

COMMUNITY · A baby care and safety class will be held from 6:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, at Erlanger Baroness (downtown Chattanooga). With times changing and discharge occurring earlier, “Baby Care” provides you with helpful items on caring for your baby at home. COMMUNITY · Junior golfers up to age 18 are invited to attend summer golf camps at the LaFayette Golf Course. The camps will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9-11 a.m. each day at a cost of $60 per camp. Tuesdays will include work on the driving range, Wednesdays will be spent on the practice greens, and Thursdays will be reserved for on course work. The camps will be directed and taught by Eddie Jackson, a former PGA Tour player who has spent the past 27 years as a teaching professional. COMMUNITY · An antique typewriter exhibit is ongoing at Chattooga Academy in LaFayette. The exhibit features Royal, Underwood and Smith typewriters, as well as Imperial and Smith-Corona typewriters. An Oliver No. 9 is also on display. The typewriters were manufactured approximately from between 1915-1950. A volunteer will be on-hand to assist visitors with the exhibit on Sundays from 1-3 p.m. Chattooga Academy is open from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. most days Monday through Friday. ENTERTAINMENT · Tickets to attend Lauren Alaina's October concert at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center in Dalton go on sale at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 14. Tickets may be purchased at the trade center box office. Alaina is scheduled to perform at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 5. General admission to the concert is $15. Friday night commencement will be held followed by family fun time at the fellowship hall. Class ages are preschool through teens. COMMUNITY · Auditions for “Cabaret,” the opening show for the 2012-2013 season of the Chattanooga Theatre Centre, will be held Monday, July 16, and Tuesday, July 17, at the Theatre Centre on the NorthShore, 400 River Street, in Chattanooga. George Quick directs this Tony Award-winning musical which opens in September on the Main Stage. Rehearsals will begin on or about July 23. Come to auditions prepared to sing, dance and act. ENTERTAINMENT · The Chattanooga Salvation Army 614 Corps is expanding its ReCreate Café Arts Program by producing the musical “Godspell” with a blended cast of performers from both the Homeless and Housed parts of the local community. ReCreate Café has joined forces with theatre professors from Covenant College and UTC to create a unique production that opens Wednesday, July 18, and ends Sunday, July 22. Performances will be held at ReCreate Café inside The Salvation Army 614 Corps at 800 McCallie Avenue. Show dates and times are 7:30 p.m. July 18-21 at and at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 22. Seating is limited. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors and students.
