On the heels of May, which was Better Hearing and Speech Month, Hearing Aid Services of Ringgold is doing its part to raise awareness about hearing loss, while also offering new technology to further assist with the early detec-tion of hearing loss in infants.

“Our main focus is to improve the overall quality of life of our patients,” said owner Rebecca Alverson, who has more than 12 years of experience in the field of audiology. “We also try to raise awareness and stress the impor-tance of regular hearing checkups.”

Alverson began her office out of her home for a span of nearly four years before opening the current location on RBC Drive in Ringgold.

In addition to hearing tests, hearing aids, and custom ear molds, the office was recently equipped with new tech-nology centered around hearing loss detection in newborns.

“It’s impossible for a newborn child to tell when they can or cannot hear something or to push a button in a screening room,” Alverson said. “The Auditory Brainstem Response Test (ABR) is a way to check frequency thresh-olds by wave forms from the hearing nerves and brain.”

Hearing Aid Services of Ringgold is the first office in the north Georgia area to get this particular equipment, which Alverson hopes encourages more parents to test their young children.

“The nearest office that offers this type of testing is in Atlanta, and sometimes that drive can be too much for some people, which sadly can discourage them from getting the testing done as well as follow-up visits,” she said.

Alverson’s office also has a variety of hearing instruments, including Receiver-In-The-Ear (RITE), Completely-In-The-Canal (CIC), custom In-The-Ear (ITE), and Behind-The-Ear (BTE).

“We love what we do here, and I love helping people with their hearing rehabilitation,” Alverson said. “My greatest satisfaction is having clients tell me that they can hear things they haven’t heard in years. I enjoy working with hearing-impaired individuals to make communication within their world easier.”
