COMMUNITY · The Rossville Public Library will host a zombie night for the tweens and teens Thursday, June 14, from 2-6 p.m. Everyone will get a tutorial on zombie makeup. Then they get to make each other up as zombies, play zombie tag and make a mini zombie movie. Zombie makeup and fake blood provided. If you want to have a more authentic look, please bring a shirt that you do not care about to rip up and turn into zombie clothes.

COMMUNITY · Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and Outdoor Chattanooga have extended their partnership to include free monthly guided historical bicycle rides to Moccasin Bend National Archeological District. The monthly bike ride for June will take place on Thursday, June 14, and will begin at 6 p.m. The tour will begin at Outdoor Chattanooga, located in Coolidge Park, at the base of the Walnut Street Bridge, 200 River Street in Chattanooga. Ride length is approximately five miles (two hours) on flat to moderately hilly terrain. The ride is appropriate for adults and children ages eight and older when accompanied by an adult. All participants are encouraged to wear helmets, but helmets are required for those participants 16 and under. While participants are encouraged to bring their own bicycles, a limited number of loaner bicycles from the Outdoor Chattanooga Mobile Bicycle Fleet will be available for riders five feet tall and over at no charge, thanks to sponsorship from the Friends of the Park and the Chattanooga Bicycle Club. Reservations for bicycles are required by calling Outdoor Chattanooga at 423-643-6888.

COMMUNITY · One Eleven restaurant on the square in downtown LaFayette will host a wine and cheese tasting fundraiser Thursday, June 14, from 5:30-8 p.m. Proceeds will go toward the restoration of six historic markers in LaFayette. EDUCATION · Georgia Northwestern Technical College will hold a law enforcement academy graduation at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 14, at the conference center in building 400, on GNTC’s Gordon County Campus. Twelve basic law enforcement recruits will graduate. The speaker at the ceremony will be Dr. Cathy Vann, GNTC’s associate vice president for academic affairs. A graduate will be honored for academic distinction and for the “Top Gun” award for excellence in marksmanship.

COMMUNITY · Second Baptist Church in association with the North Georgia YMCA and the Chattanooga Area Food Bank will offer a free summer lunch program Tuesdays and Thursdays, to kids and teens ages 0-17. ENTERTAINMENT · The Riverbend Festival is ongoing and continues through Sunday, June 17 on the 21st Century Waterfront along the Tennessee River in Chattanooga. Bands ranging from classic rock, jam bands, country, urban and bluegrass will perform. Riverbend draws more than 650,000 patrons annually. COMMUNITY · An antique typewriter exhibit is ongoing at Chattooga Academy in LaFayette. The exhibit features Royal, Underwood and Smith typewriters, as well as Imperial and Smith-Corona typewriters. An Oliver No. 9 is also on display. The typewriters were manufactured approximately from between 1915-1950. A volunteer will be on-hand to assist visitors with the exhibit on Sundays from 1-3 p.m. Chattooga Academy is open from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. most days Monday through Friday. COMMUNITY · A Walker County Candidate Town Hall will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at the Walker County Civic Center off Highway 27 in Rock Spring. The event is free to the public. All candidates appearing on the July 31 ballot, regardless of political party, are invited to participate. Concerned Citizens for an Informed Electorate is organizing the town hall. The rides are appropriate for adults and children ages eight and older when accompanied by an adult. All participants are required to wear helmets. Additional Saturday battlefield bicycle tours are scheduled for June 16, July 21, Aug. 18, Sept. 15, and Oct. 20.
