The Bobcats saw a 10-point lead slip away on Friday, but a late rally would lift GNTC to the victory.
Up 36-33 at halftime, the Lions came back to take a five-point lead with five minutes to play in the second half. But sophomore Ben Patton would spur the comeback, scoring five points in the final 90 seconds to help give his team the win.
Patton had 13 points on the night while freshman Randy Boyd led all scorers with 19 points and collected 11 rebounds. Freshman Alex Miller had 14 points while sophomore Bud Todd scored 13 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and blocked three shots in the win. Sophomore captain Matt Woods would lead the way from the point with eight assists, four steals, and nine rebounds.
Tennessee Temple 75, GNTC 74
A put-back in the paint by Douglas Slade with one second left gave the Crusaders a one-point win over the Bobcats in Saturday's tournament finale.
Slade ended the day with 13 points and 17 rebounds. while Miller scored a season-high 26 to pace the Bobcats while he added 13 rebounds.
Boyd and Patton each had 13 points in a losing effort.
“We had a lot of easy shots just not fall,” said GNTC head coach David Stephenson. “We were cold from outside and we just didn’t have the shots today.”
GNTC shot 63 percent from the free throw line and was jst 4-of-16 from behind the 3-point arc.
The Bobcats (6-7) will resume NJCAA Region XVII play on Jan. 7 in Carrollton against region rival West Georgia Tech.
