According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:
Jeffery Matthew King, 26, of 243 Lytle Road in Rossville was arrested Thursday, Oct. 13, on charges of DUI (mul-tiple substances) and reckless driving.
King was first spotted leaving the Fred’s Store at 1179 Clouds Springs Road at approximately 2:30 a.m. before fi-nally being apprehended on Fant Drive.
“I noticed the vehicle moving at a high rate of speed and spinning its tires,” officer James Clark wrote in the re-port. “I made contact with the suspect on Fant Drive after it appeared that he struck the concrete raised median while attempting to turn onto the street.”
After being pulled over, King awaited the arrival of officer Clark while extending both of his arms outside the window of his vehicle.
“I asked the suspect to exit the vehicle, at which time I observed the suspect’s exit attempt of the vehicle to be unsteady.”
When asked if he had been drinking, King explained that had consumed six beers before driving.
“I performed standardized field sobriety tests on the suspect, which he failed,” Clark said. “I then asked the of-fender if he was under the influence of any other type of medication or drug at which time he stated that he had smoked marijuana earlier in the day.”
King was then placed under arrest and transported to Catoosa County jail without incident.
It was later discovered that King had been involved in a single-car accident shortly before being pulled over by officer Clark.
Physical evidence at the scene and evidence found on King’s car confirmed the vehicle to be the one involved in the collision earlier in the morning.
