COMMUNITY · The 41st annual Rock Spring Methodist Church Show and Sell will be Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Show and Sell features arts, crafts, artisans, demonstrations and a wide variety of delectable home-cooked Southern specialties. On the menu for the event are homemade soup, chili and fried pies along with fair staples, hamburgers and hot dogs. The event also features hayrides for the kids, giving parents the freedom to browse. Admission is free.

Sunday, Sept. 25
CHURCH · LaFayette Presbyterian Church will host a guest preacher Sunday, Sept. 25. Rev. Tommy Sullivan will deliver the sermon in the 11 a.m. service. Rev. Sullivan is a son of the congregation and graduated from LaFayette High School in 1966. He graduated from King College in Bristol, Tenn., in 1970, and completed his Masters of Divinity degree at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Ga., in 1973. He has served congregations of the Presbyterian Church in Virginia since he was ordained in 1973. The public is invited to the special service, which is part of the 175th anniversary of the congregation. A luncheon will follow the service in the fellowship hall.
COMMUNITY · The regular monthly meeting of the Walker County Historical Society will be Sunday, Sept. 25, at 2:30 p.m. The program will be a walking tour of the Battle of LaFayette with refreshments on the Marsh House lawn afterward. Leaders will be Wade Gilbert and Connie Forester. The public is invited to meet at the Chattooga Academy on North Main Street with a parasol, a wide-brimmed hat, plenty of sunscreen, a water bottle and good walking shoes. The walk will retrace the positions and strategies of the Union and Confederate troops during this important engagement of the War Between the States.
COMMUNITY · The 20th Century U.S. military exhibit at Chattooga Academy, 304 N. Main Street, LaFayette, will end on Sunday, Sept. 25. Those who have brought items for display are asked to pick them up that day from 1 to 3 p.m. if possible, or to contact 706-639-1519 to schedule a time to pick them up. A new exhibit will open on Saturday, Oct. 1.
CHURCH · Chattooga Baptist Church will hold their 173rd homecoming service Sept. 25. Special singing by SonRise will begin at 10:30 a.m., and a covered dish luncheon will the held in the fellowship hall after the service. Everyone is welcome to attend.
